The Ford Motor Company and other foreign companies submitted documents yesterday to bid for the troubled Kia Motors Corporation of South Korea and its sister company, the Asia Motors Corporation. Ford and Korea's second-largest auto maker, Daewoo Motor, followed South Korea's largest auto maker, the Hyundai Motor Company, and the upstart Samsung Motors Inc., which submitted their documents earlier this week, a Kia spokesman, Kim Sam Sung, said. He said other foreign companies had also submitted letters of intent by yesterday's deadline but did not want their names disclosed. Ford and its affiliate Mazda of Japan are Kia's biggest shareholders with about 17 percent. |
